A national database on population is among six prioritised databases to be developed to create a foundation for the e-government system.

Accordingly, the six national databases comprise: the national database on population made by the Ministry of Public Security; national land database developed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; national database on business registration and population statistics compiled by the Ministry of Planning and Investment; national database on finance by the Ministry of Finance; and the national database on insurance by Vietnam Social Security.

The PM also assigned specific tasks to agencies responsible for developing the national databases including managing, developing and updating the databases.

During the development of each national database, it is necessary to build detailed provisions on the objectives, scope, and subjects, as well as clarify definitions and relationships between these components and calculate the feasibility and effectiveness of the national databases as to avoid overlapping with current operating national databases.

The PM also asked related ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and local authorities to engage in operating  and updating national databases, as well as direct sub-agencies and subordinate units to provide information, and update data to bodies in charge of developing the databases to ensure accuracy and integrity of information.
