Among the attendants was Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who joined other participants in a Friday launching ceremony for the project.
The Hon Thom-Phu Quoc cable car features six pillars crossing Hon Dua and Hon Roi Islands, with the tallest one at 160 metres. The whole line consists of 70 cabins accommodating about 30 passengers each, travelling at 8.5 metres per second.
Stretching nearly 8 kilometres, the cable car will be the longest in the world and is scheduled to be put into use in late April, 2017. The cable car will be 1.5 kilometres longer than the current title holder, the Sapa-Fansipan cable car in Vietnam’s northern Lao Cai province.
Along with the cable car system, Sun Group will also invest in various sea entertainment, tourism and eco resort services, hoping to make Hon Thom Island a heaven for relaxation in the southwesternmost region of the country.
Arriving at Hon Thom, tourists will have a chance to enjoy seaplane or yacht tours around Phu Quoc Island. A sea and island recreation park is also scheduled to be built with an array of adventure games and other activities such as sailing, mountain climbing and coral diving.
According to Sun Group General Director Dang Minh Truong, the company will develop Hon Thom into the most fascinating tourism destination in the region, aiming to fully tap the tourism potential of both Hon Thon and Phu Quoc islands, creating jobs for local people and contributing to boosting local socio-economic development.
