The Government leader also provided VND20 million to support Hai’s grieving family.
On February 8, Hai rushed to a river near his home after hearing a call for help from Le Thi Loan, a teacher, who along with her two kids, was caught in a strong eddy of water while releasing carp into the river on the Kitchen Gods Day.
Hai and two other students were able to bring the Loan and her children to safety but in the process of his heroic deed he himself drowned.
The Thanh Hoa student has also been honoured by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for the bravery of his actions and personal sacrifice to save other people.
Hai was a student of a university in Hanoi and was in his home province for the Tet holiday break.

Hoang Duc Hai, a student in the central province of Thanh Hoa, has been posthumously awarded the certificate of merit by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc for rescuing a teacher and her two children.
