This year, the municipal authorities will continue to implement 77 ongoing flood prevention projects with a total expanse of nearly VND5 trillion (US$215 million),while commencing the construction of 47 new projects worth nearly VND2 trillion (US$86 million) and making preparations to invest in 94 others worth a total of VND819 billion (US$35.2 million).
According to the flood reduction plan 2019, the city will prioritise resolving flooding in the central city and five suburban areas of 550km2 with an estimated population of about 6.5 million.
In addition, the city will work to improve the water environment, increase water storage space and embellish urban landscapes, contributing toimproving people’s lives and protecting the environment.
The city will complete two projects on improving drainage systems on Mai ThiLuu Street in District 1 and Huynh Tan Phat Street in District 7, while finishing the flood tide prevention project in the central city to resolve flooding due to high tides on four out of nine routes in the city, among others.
The municipal People’s Committee has asked the Department of Science and Technology and the agencies concerned to study and apply advanced technology in the implementation of drainage projects, waste water treatment plants and others to save costs and land sources in harmony with urban landscaping.
The authorities will use its budget to finance these projects in addition to calling for investment under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
