NDO - Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh visited the Tam Chuc Temple in the northern province of Ha Nam on May 2 to inspect preparations for the UN Day of Vesak, to be held in Vietnam in mid-May.

The successful organisation of the event will help international friends to better understand Vietnam’s policy towards religions and promote Vietnam’s tourism, said Binh at a meeting with the ministries concerned and the local authorities after the inspection tour.

The UN Day of Vesak celebrations are scheduled to take place from May 12-14 at the Tam Chuc Temple.

The Deputy PM urged that the event must be held in a solemn, thorough, substantive and effective manner with appropriate safety and security measures.

He asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold a warm reception for foreign delegations and the Ministry of Public Security to guarantee absolute security for high-ranking leaders and delegates attending the event.

Meanwhile Ha Nam province was tasked with ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure for the UN Day of Vesak will be completed on schedule with high quality.

According to the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam, 500 foreign delegations from 112 countries and territories have registered to attend the event, which marks the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death.

This is the third time that Vietnam will host the UN Day of Vesak, following the first time in 2008, at the My Dinh National Convention Centre in Hanoi, and the second time in 2014, at the Bai Dinh Temple in Ninh Binh province.
