Speaking at the award ceremony, Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan said the awards were considered an acknowledgement for contributions made by collectives and individuals to the development of the city over the past years.

He expressed his hope that the awards would act as motivation for every citizen to promote their creativity, contributing to an increase of the city’s labour productivity; whilst the projects would be successfully realised and result in large profits.

Five months since its launch, the organising board honoured 44 outstanding works in seven categories, including economics, defence - security (nine works); culture - art (three works); administrative reform (five works); communication (four works); society (two works); creative innovation (five projects); and basic science (16 works).

The awards, launched in December 2018, are the first of their kind to be held by the Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities to encourage individual and collectives to contribute their creativity and dynamism to inspire and encourage the development of the city.
