The Ambassador made the reaffirmation at a meeting on July 4 in Savannakhet province with the Overseas Vietnamese (OV) community and businesses who are operating in the locality.

Nguyen Duy Luong, Chairman of Vietnamese People’s Association in Savannakhet, informed the Ambassador on the situation of OV in Laos, asserting that the OV have always promoted solidarity and mutual support for each other, and have worked together to maintain the practice of Vietnamese language in the community.

He called for more support for the education and teaching of the Vietnamese language in Laos.

For his part, Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung updated the OVs on Vietnam’s political, economic and social situation, noting with pleasure that the country’s prestige and role has been increased in the region and the world.

He pledged to convey the OV’s proposals and queries to functional agencies and sectors in Vietnam.

He also briefed the OVs on major projects in Laos which are invested by Vietnamese businesses.

There are more than 4,000 Overseas Vietnamese people living in Savannakhet, with over 70% of them having Lao nationality. The OVs have enthusiastically participated in programmes and campaigns launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and turned their hearts to the homeland.

Specifically, the Vietnamese People’s Association in Savannakhet has raised money to build 44 social houses for poor households in Vietnam’s central localities, such as Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien – Hue, and Da Nang city.
