Awards presented to winners of writing contest on poverty reduction

NDO – An awards ceremony was held in Hanoi on October 15 to honour the winners of a writing contest on poverty reduction for the 2016-2020 period.

The contest was launched in January 2017 by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.

As of August 31, 2019, the organising board received a total of 325 entries in the various categories of reportages, photo collection, radio and TV programmes by press agencies at central and local levels.

At the ceremony, the organising board presented four A, eight B, 14 C and 15 consolation prizes for best entrants of the contest. One team prize went to Nhan Dan Newspaper for having the largest number of submissions and winning entries.

Addressing the award ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue noted with pleasure that Vietnam has achieved the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on poverty elimination, and is highly appreciated among international community as a “bright spot” in realising its poverty reduction goal.

He spoke highly of the enthusiastic participation of press agencies and journalists in the contest, which can be seen through the increasing number and improved quality of entries sent to the organising board.

He also took the occasion to call for joint effort and further resources from the State, entire society, business community, organisations and individuals at home and abroad towards the campaign.

At the event, the Central Steering Committee for 2016-2020 National Target Programmes launched a charitable texting programme to support the poor via the national humanitarian portal 1400.
