Deputy PM Dam, who heads the central intersectoral steering committee on food safety, made the request during his working session in Hanoi on December 13 with ministries and sectors on food safety work in 2019 and key tasks for 2020.
“We should be more drastic in the management and handling of the health protection food advertisements which are untrue, uncultured and offensive on social networks and television, triggering frustration throughout public opinion,” he said.
The deputy PM asked for the review of the standards on functional foods issued by the Ministry of Health aiming to ensure safety for consumers.
He urged ministries, sectors and localities to take proactive steps to ensure food safety during peak times, such as the tourism and festive seasons and especially during the Lunar New Year (Tet).
The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development should work out specific orientations and solutions to build the “food safety and hygiene map” in the near future, Deputy PM Dam said.
He stressed the need to publicise clean production farms and models, the standard slaughterhouses, clean food outlets and even the list of establishments with food safety violations, so that the people could have a foundation for improved food traceability and access reputable and quality food sources, thereby creating a movement of using safe food nationwide.
In 2020, the Ministry of Health is responsible for continuing to perfect the assessment of the impacts of the Law on Food Safety Law, promoting safe food production activities, prioritising the development of specialised farming areas applying the domestic consumer food standards and stepping up the inspection processes as well as strictly handling violations.
