Spreading patriotism on cyberspace

First launched by the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Youth Federation in 2020 ahead of celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), the “I Love My Fatherland” communications campaign has become a flagship initiative of the movement of the same name, aimed at spreading patriotism and national spirit across the Internet in general and social media platforms in particular.

Taking advantage of the “I Love My Fatherland” movement being implemented simultaneously in all provinces and cities nationwide, the communications campaign coordinated closely with the press, social media, and key opinion leaders (KOLs) to create a wave of videos featuring people singing the National Anthem alongside millions of flying national flags, as well as thousands of images and articles about volunteer activities and gratitude campaigns carrying the hashtag #ToiYeuToQuocToi amid the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic. During celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), the campaign once again became a focal point on social media platforms, generating more than 1.1 billion interactions and spreading information about the implementation of 250 youth works in remote areas, border regions, and islands.

Promoting these successes, this year’s “I Love My Fatherland” communications campaign will feature many new activities linked to the series “Proud of the 70-year tradition of the Viet Nam Youth Federation”, aimed at strengthening traditional education and inspiring patriotism and dedication, while creating an environment for young people to uphold creativity and integration as well as affirm their role in society. Specifically, the campaign will be closely connected with the “I Love My Fatherland” 2026 journey, especially the 70-day emulation campaign celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Viet Nam Youth Federation’s establishment, the “15 days of good deeds for the Fatherland” programme, the “I Love My Fatherland” marathon, and various social welfare activities nationwide.

A highlight of this year’s journey and campaign is its division into seven stages passing through many “red addresses” in Nghe An, Hue, Tuyen Quang, Dien Bien, Khanh Hoa, Ca Mau, Ho Chi Minh City, and the capital city of Ha Noi.

Taking place from now until October, the campaign will also feature many activities expected to attract large numbers of Vietnamese youths both at home and abroad, including the AI songwriting contest “I Love My Fatherland”; cover and remix competition of the song “Len Dang”; a short video creation contest; Youth Fest 2026; and the National Creative Youth Festival.

Speaking about the campaign’s new features, Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Viet Nam Youth Federation, said that together with the “I Love My Fatherland” journey, the campaign is being carried out with young people at its centre, cyberspace as its front line, and good deeds as its measure.

“At each destination, there will be many activities on traditional education, gratitude, and social welfare, as well as exchanges with historical witnesses and communications on national maritime and border sovereignty, with the hope that these places will become intersections of geography and emotion, history, and national pride. During the campaign, young people will not only receive information but also play the role of content creators and community inspirers, helping spread patriotism as a trend across cyberspace,” Nguyen Tuong Lam shared.

This year’s “I Love My Fatherland” journey will integrate many meaningful activities, including the Nguyen Chi Thanh Level I trainer camps in Lam Dong Province, Ho Chi Minh City, and Ha Noi; a digital exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the Viet Nam Youth Federation; and podcasts on outstanding youths. Notably, 2026 will also mark the first time the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Youth Federation organises the Nguyen Chi Thanh Award to honour outstanding and exemplary officials of the Viet Nam Youth Federation nationwide. These activities are expected to become good topics and open new directions for young people passionate about creating digital content on social media platforms.

Love for the nation should not only be expressed through grand slogans. Therefore, the spirit of “I Love My Fatherland” needs to be reflected through concrete actions. Beginning with kind and useful deeds every day, or simply through efforts to study well, work responsibly, live more compassionately, and be willing to share with the community, every young person can become a driving force of the “I Love My Fatherland” 2026 journey and communications campaign, contributing to spreading the positive image and values of Vietnamese youth in the new era.
