Tan Cang - Thot Not port commences operations

Saigon Newport Corporation on November 12 held an inauguration ceremony for Tan Cang - Thot Not terminal in Thot Not district, Can Tho city which can receive vessels of up to 2,000 DWT.

The terminal has a 75m-wharf capable of receiving 2,000 DWT vessels and a 90m-barge pier capable of receiving 1,000-tonne barges in addition to a freight yard covering 1.1ha.

General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation Nguyen Dang Nghiem said Tan Cang - Thot Not terminal will collect, gather and load goods and containers with a focus on rice, aquatic products and animal feed from Can Tho and neighbouring provinces including An Giang, Kien Giang and Dong Thap.

The terminal will also provide all-in logistics services for the waterways connecting the Mekong Delta region with Ho Chi Minh City and deep water ports such as Cai Mep-Thi Vai port as well as with Cambodia.

It has been estimated that with three ports including Tan Cang - Tra Noc, Tan Cang - Cai Cui and Tan Cang - Thot Not, about 40,000 TEUs of containers, 250,000 tonnes of bulk cargo and 800,000 tonnes of commodities will receive clearance in Can Tho 2016.
