The event was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh.
The festival also saw the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and leaders of six provinces in the Viet Bac Region including Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen and Cao Bang, along with numerous local people and visitors.
The annual event aims to introduce the image of the land and people as well as historical and cultural values of ethnic minority groups in Tuyen Quang province.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Politburo member Binh, who is also head of the Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region, affirmed that the Party and State, in addition to schools, families and the society always pay due attention to and care for children.
He extended his wish for a happy mid-Autumn festival to all children and hoped that they would try their best to implement five Uncle Ho’s teachings and achieve good results in their studies.
The Politburo member emphasised that in addition to being a mid-Autumn event for children, the ‘Tuyen Quang City Festival’ has become an important cultural and social event as well as a unique tourism product imbued with the province’s cultural identities, attracting a large number of both domestic and foreign visitors.
The programme ‘Crossing the Heritage Lands of the Viet Bac Region’ in conjunction with the festival is promoting co-operation among provinces and cities in the region to bring tourism into an important economic sector, noted Politburo member Binh.
He asked the provinces to continue to promote the annual programme and festival as well as enhance collaboration to set out effective measures to develop the tourism industry, in order to truly reflect the Viet Bac region’s potentials and strengths.
Sixty of the most outstanding lantern designs, which depict characters in fairy tales, colloquial stories and famous beauty spots of the country, were selected to feature in the parade at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square.
On the night of the festival, leaders of the Tuyen Quang provincial People’s Committee presented gifts to outstanding students living difficult circumstances in the province.
