The decision on the suspension was announced by the VPF in its document sent to relevant clubs on July 8.
The national professional football tournaments were due to resume this July 31 if the COVID-19 situation nationwide was brought under control, together with permission from the Government and competent agencies, as agreed by the VPF and clubs during their online meeting on July 2.
However, in recent days, the pandemic has been getting tenser, with a large number of new cases detected across the country, especially in Ho Chi Minh City - which has imposed social distancing measures under the Prime Minister’s Directive 16 for 15 days starting from 0:00 on July 9.
In the face of the disease’s complicated developments, the VPF decided to halt the plans to resume the V.League 1 and the First Division Tournament (V.League 2) as previously announced.
The VPF will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation to proactively develop and adjust the organisation plans for the coming period in a suitable and timely manner.
After 12 matchdays of the V.League 1 first leg, Hoang Anh Gia Lai are leading the table three points clear of title holders Viettel FC and ten points above third-placed Quang Ninh Coal. There is only one matchday remaining before the 14 participating teams enter the decisive second phase, which will see the first leg’s top six teams compete for the overall trophy while the remaining eight fight to avoid relegation.
