The Ministry of Education and Training is seeking public feedback on a draft circular amending and supplementing a number of contents of the general education curriculum promulgated together with Circular No. 32/2018/TT-BGDDT. The consultation period will run until August 29. One of the notable points is the proposal to adjust the teaching and learning of foreign languages, with a view to making English a second language in schools.
Under the draft circular, at primary level, compulsory subjects include Vietnamese, Mathematics, Ethics, Foreign Language 1, Natural and Social Sciences, History and Geography, Science, Informatics and Technology, Physical Education, Arts and Experiential Activities.
If students choose English as Foreign Language 1, they will study it from Grade 1 to Grade 5. Those choosing another foreign language will begin from Grade 3.
