Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang stressed that NDN has a long-standing and close connection with Viet Nam and was one of the first foreign media agencies to establish a resident office in the country.
During the difficult years of Viet Nam’s struggle for independence in the 1960s, NDN was the only foreign news organisation operating in the north of the country.
Its journalists directly captured authentic footage of the devastation caused by bombing raids and the resilient daily lives of the Vietnamese people, helping the international community gain a clearer understanding of the realities of the war, while strengthening support for Viet Nam’s struggle for independence, reunification and territorial integrity.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that NDN has also made significant contributions to fostering the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Japan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Fujita Shigeru said he was deeply moved, noting that the reopening of NDN’s resident office in Viet Nam marks a particularly meaningful milestone for the agency.
He expressed his honour in continuing the tradition built by generations of NDN journalists in Viet Nam since the 1960s, while reaffirming both his and NDN’s commitment to delivering truthful, objective and comprehensive reporting on Viet Nam to international audiences.
He stated that NDN would further strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese authorities and media partners to accurately reflect the country’s development achievements, its peaceful foreign policy and its contributions to the international community.
Fujita expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for facilitating the reopening of NDN’s resident office in Viet Nam and expressed confidence that media cooperation between NDN and Viet Nam would continue to be enhanced, contributing meaningfully to greater understanding, trust and friendship between the peoples of Viet Nam and Japan.
