Vietnam Culture Week opens in Cambodia

The 19th Vietnam Culture Week in Cambodia (2024) officially opened in the capital city of Phnom Penh on May 21 as part of activities to strengthen the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Speaking at the event, Ta Quang Dong, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, noted that implementing the agreements between the two countries' senior leaders and the cultural cooperation plan between Vietnam and Cambodia during the 2023-2027 period, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Cambodia have been regularly cooperating in organising cultural exchange programmes, contributing to strengthening neighbourly friendship and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

He shared that the event aims to introduce to the Cambodian people and international friends the cultural beauty of Vietnam through music, dance, and traditional instrument performances, including art forms which are recognised as intangible cultural heritages of humanity by UNESCO.

He also noted that over more than half a century of diplomatic ties, the cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has become increasingly developed in many fields. Vietnam is delighted at the socio-economic and cultural achievements that Cambodia has gained, significantly contributing to boosting cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Dong expressed his belief that with various cultural exchange activities between the two countries, Vietnam Culture Week in Cambodia 2024 is an important milestone in consolidating and further enhancing the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between the two countries.

For his part, Phoeurng Sackona, Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, noted that in the 57 years since establishing diplomatic ties, Cambodia and Vietnam have always maintained their relations in the spirit of good neighbourliness, long-term solidarity, and mutual understanding.

The 19th Vietnam Culture Week not only shows the joint efforts of the two sides but also helps people from the two countries have more opportunities to learn about each other's culture, thus contributing to the bond of friendship and neighbourly cooperation.

He affirmed that the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts will continue to support and strengthen the organisation of joint activities, considering them as model events that both countries can carry out in cooperation with other countries to introduce their culture, art, land, and people.
