Vietnam intensifies measures to prevent pink-eye disease

The Ministry of Health (MoH) on October 3 asked provincial and municipal people’s committees nationwide to step up measures to prevent pink-eye disease.

Accordingly, local authorities are urged to beef-up monitoring and early detection procedures as well as promptly deal with any reported outbreaks, while stepping up prevention activities.

Medical stations are also being asked to provide consultancy and treatment, and increase the supply of medicine.

In addition, provincial departments of information and communication are working with relevant agencies to intensify educational activities on how to prevent the disease.

Local education departments are also asked to promptly inform preventive medicine units of outbreaks detected at schools and kindergartens are urged to ensure hygiene and provide parents with measures to prevent the disease.

In order to prevent from the disease, the ministry warns people to keep personal hygiene. Pink-eye sufferers should reduce contacts with others and come to medical stations for treatment.

The ministry’s warning comes as the number of people suffering from pink-eye disease has increased rapidly in many localities, especially in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang city and central Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Binh Dinh provinces.
