Vietnam to host Syria on FIFA Days

Vietnam will play a friendly match against Syria on June 20 at northern Nam Dinh province's Thien Truong Stadium for FIFA Days, Vietnam Football Federation announced in a press conference on June 19.

It’s the second match of this kind of the national football team under coach Philippe Troussier. Earlier, the team won 1-0 in a friendly against Hong Kong (China).

Speaking at the conference, Syria’s coach Hector Cuper spoke highly of their opponent in the upcoming game, adding that Vietnamese football has significantly progressed over the past years and the team has been on a right track to the future.

For his part, Philippe Troussier revealed that he has called six more players to join the national team.

Syria is ranked 90th in the world rankings, five places above Vietnam.

Vietnam has played Syria three times since 2009. The team won one, drew one and lost one. In their latest encounter in 2016, Vietnam won 2-0.
