The information was mentioned at the Vietnam Export Promotion Forum 2023 entitled “Green export promotion” which was held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi on November 24.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said that green growth, green development and circular economy have become a global trend, being a positive solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the resilience and creativity of the economy for the goal of carbon neutrality and sustainable development. This trend has formed ‘new rules’ on trade and investment.

He noted that many developed economies in the world have set out stricter regulations on environment regarding imported goods such as the European Green Deal, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, Farm to Fork, Circular Economy Action Plan, or EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.

Therefore, exporting countries, including Vietnam should change their thinking and pay more attention to the ‘green’ of the supply chain in the international trade to meet demanding technical requirements of the market and not to be eliminated from the market.

At the forum, speakers discussed solutions to practice green development and green export, solutions to support enterprises to satify requirements of importing markets, mechanisms to adjust carbon, recommendations on policy building to promote green export, and others.
