Vietnamese women's volleyball team triumphs at 2023 AVC Challenge Cup

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team beat their rivals from Indonesia to become the champions of the 2023 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup at a final match held at Tridhama Sport Hall, Indonesia, on June 25.

The Vietnamese players dominated the first set and won 25-18. Their opponents earned an equalizer in the second set (27-25) and outplayed them 25-21 in the third set.

Under the sound direction of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and their strong determination to win, the Vietnamese team outperformed their hosts 25-19 and 15-13 in the last two sets to claim a convincing victory.

The 3-2 victory not only marked the first time Vietnam has won the championship title of the AVC Challenger Cup but also helped them earn a ticket to the FIVB Women's Challenge Cup, which will be held in France from July 27 to 30.

In addition, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was named as the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament. She also bagged the best outside spiker awards, together with Wu Fang-yu from Taiwan (China).

Meanwhile, Doan Thi Lam Oanh was awarded the best setter, and Dinh Thi Tra Giang was honoured as the best middle blocker.

The 2023 AVC Challenge Cup tournament took place from June 18 to 25 at Tridhama Sport Hall in Gresik, a city in Indonesia’s East Java Province, gathering 12 teams.

The teams were divided into four groups, with Vietnam in Group D along with Uzbekistan and Mongolia.
