Vietnamese youngsters show talent at international street culture and sports competition in Russia

The final round of the seventh KARDO International Street Culture and Sports Award was held in Stavropol City, Russia from August 22 to 25, attracting enthusiastic participation from youngsters around the world, including Vietnam.

The competition was a venue for those who share a passion for street culture and sports. Regardless of race or skin colour, they came there to express their passion and show their talent and the tone in the field of street culture and sports.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Stavropol Territory Governor Vladimir Vladimirov expressed his hope that the event will leave good memories in the hearts of the participants, so that when they return home, they can share with their family, friends and relatives, about the wonderful journey they had gone through in the beautiful city of Stavropol.

KARDO Awards were first held in 2018 in Stavropol, then upgraded to an international event to support the development of street culture and sports.

The final round of this year’s event gathered around 2,500 people from 47 countries and territories worldwide, who competed in a wide range of categories from skateboarding, hip-hop, tricking, graffiti, and break dancing, to parkour, bicycle motocross (BMX), kick scootering and DJing.

Five Vietnamese contestants at the event participated in hip-hop, DJing, video contests, and break-dancing events.

Among them, Le Huu Phuoc, the silver medallist at the 30th SEA Games in break dancing, won the first prize in the video contest category.

Mai Thien Quan from Dong Nai Province was the crown champion in the hip-hop event, while Tran Trung Kien from Hanoi bagged the second prize in DJing.

Vu Viet Cong from Nam Dinh Province and Le Quoc Huy from Dong Nai Province were named among the Top 8 contestants in Breakdancing.

“My greatest happiness while attending the competition is to let the world know more about my beautiful and hospitable homeland Vietnam,” he stated.

Sharing her feelings about the champion title, Mai Thien Quan said that she was very happy to join such a big competition like KARDO.

“I gave my all to the game. Although it was raining heavily in the finale, the dance floor was slippery and dangerous, I tried my best to deliver my performance,” she recalled.

“Honestly, at that time, I didn’t think about the result, because defeating many talents from countries worldwide and advancing to the finale was truly a great happiness for me. I was overwhelmed with emotion when I was named winner”, Quan happily said.

To reach the final round of this competition, Quan had to practice hard every day and went through fierce competition right from the online qualification round.

“I believe that the champion title will give a push for me to go further in the future,” she said. She also took the occasion to express her special thanks to the audience in Russia, who gave the contestants a lot of energy during the competition.
