The committee aims to guide Vietnam’s AI development, ensuring ethical standards, fostering innovation alongside societal benefits, and creating a supportive legal framework. Its core tasks include developing AI safety standards, assessing risks, raising awareness of responsible AI, and promoting international collaboration.

This initiative reflects Vietnam’s commitment to aligning with global efforts, such as the EU AI Act, OECD AI Principles, and UNESCO’s AI ethics recommendations, emphasising transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI governance.

Professor Yoshua Bengio, a leading figure in AI research, stressed the importance of ethical standards: “As we unlock AI’s transformative potential, prioritising safety and ethics is crucial. The challenge lies not only in advancing AI but in applying it responsibly to serve humanity and uphold core values.”

Nguyen Tu Quang, Vice President of VINASA and Chairman of the AI Ethics Committee highlighted the dual nature of AI as both an opportunity and a challenge. He emphasised the need for ethical and legal frameworks to maximise AI’s potential while minimising risks.

FPT, a leading AI research and development company in Vietnam, has joined as a founding member. FPT Chairman Dr Truong Gia Binh stated, “The AI Ethics Committee is a testament to Vietnam’s vision for responsible leadership in the AI era. By adhering to international standards and fostering global collaboration, we aim to build an AI ecosystem that benefits humanity and drives sustainable innovation.”
