The 2025 competition received 149 coffee samples submitted by 70 organisations and individuals from nine provinces and cities, namely Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Quang Tri, Son La, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi. The total volume of coffee samples amounted to 245 tonnes, comprising 173 tonnes of Robusta and 72 tonnes of Arabica.

The competition aims to affirm the quality and value of Vietnamese coffee beans; to seek out and honour outstanding coffee products from sourcing regions nationwide; and to connect producers, roasters, traders, and experts both domestically and internationally.

A notable highlight of the Vietnam Specialty Coffee Competition 2025 was the record-breaking volume of submissions, with a single Robusta lot reaching 30 tonnes for the first time, demonstrating a high degree of practicality and commercial viability. Additionally, the competition featured a diverse range of coffee varieties, including Robusta types such as TR9, Thien Truong, and Dwarf Green, and Arabica varieties such as Yellow Catuai, Bourbon, Typica, and THA1.

The coffee samples were evaluated based on international processes and standards (as set by the Specialty Coffee Association – SCA, and the Coffee Quality Institute – CQI), with participation from international judges and reputable roasters.

Out of the 149 coffee samples, the organising committee selected the 43 with the highest scores — 24 Robusta and 19 Arabica — to compete for the top 10 positions in the Robusta and Arabica categories in the final round.

Following a rigorous final evaluation process, the organising committee selected the top 3 Robusta specialty coffee samples and the top 4 Arabica samples for awarding.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Nguyen Thien Van, Vice Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee, emphasised that this marked the seventh consecutive year the Vietnam Specialty Coffee Competition had been held. Its aim is to discover, evaluate, and promote coffee samples of exceptional quality that meet international specialty coffee standards.
