In the era of comprehensive digital transformation, quantum technology is emerging as a decisive pillar for the accelerated development of nations. From cybersecurity, finance and biomedicine to artificial intelligence, quantum systems are fundamentally reshaping the global landscape of socio-economic development.
According to international assessments, major countries have invested billions of USD in quantum technology, driven by their commitment to becoming leaders of the next technological revolution.
Recognising the transformative power of quantum technology in shaping a nation's future, Viet Nam has proactively aligned its policies for modern science and technology development with the cultivation of advanced human resources. Gia Lai's designation as the first locality to announce Quantum Year 2026 clearly demonstrates the country's strategic approach of "building early awareness while laying a solid foundation", thereby helping Viet Nam integrate effectively into the global wave of technological innovation.
In line with this vision, Quang Trung University has proactively collaborated with leading international partners, including Quandela Quantum Technology Company (France), the Open Quantum Institute (OQI, Switzerland), Quanova, together with long-term financial and organisational support from Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Nam A Bank), to officially launch the Quang Trung Quantum Decoding Centre - the heart of the quantum technology innovation ecosystem in the Central Highlands and Central Viet Nam.
Dr To Ba Lam, President of Quang Trung University, emphasised that "The establishment of the Quang Trung Quantum Decoding Centre is far more than a conventional research project. It represents the University's pioneering mission to build a responsible education system capable of narrowing the technological gap between Viet Nam and the rest of the world. We are committed to creating an internationally accredited environment for learning and research, where young Vietnamese people will not only gain access to quantum knowledge but also master and create the technologies of the future."
This breakthrough facility is designed not only to support research, exhibitions and scientific outreach for school pupils and university students, but also to serve as a centre for disseminating scientific knowledge and inspiring the wider community, particularly younger generations, to pursue excellence in advanced technology.
The Quang Trung Quantum Decoding Centre is also the starting point for the University's plan to establish a Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence Centre, creating major breakthroughs in research, high-quality workforce training and the application of quantum technologies across key sectors, including cybersecurity, finance and banking, biomedicine, artificial intelligence and advanced materials.
Its internationally standardised laboratory infrastructure will enable scientists and students to undertake advanced research, master core technologies and progressively achieve self-reliance in the design, manufacture and commercialisation of quantum devices, paving the way for Viet Nam to join the global supply chain. At the same time, the Quantum Workforce and Talent Development Programme will establish seamless links between theory and practice, education and research, as well as academia and industry, through collaboration with domestic and international partners such as Quandela (France) and OQI (Switzerland), thereby maximising the potential of Vietnamese talent in an era of deep international integration.
As part of the programme, the Quantathon Gia Lai 2026 International Hackathon has also been officially launched as a platform to identify, nurture and develop the country's most outstanding young talents. The close partnership between Nam A Bank and Quang Trung University not only strengthens organisational resources but also ensures international academic standards, providing contestants with opportunities to learn from and compete alongside leading experts from the Vietnam Quantum Technology Network (VNQuantum) and the National Innovation Centre (NIC).
Through this extensive international collaboration, the Quang Trung Quantum Decoding Centre has become a strategic gateway connecting Gia Lai and Viet Nam to the global quantum network at a time when quantum technology is entering a period of rapid worldwide expansion.
Pham Cong Tuan Ha, Independent Member of the Board of Directors of Nam A Bank, stated that "By providing comprehensive support for quantum research and international cooperation activities at Quang Trung University, Nam A Bank continues to reaffirm its strong commitment to building a high-tech foundation and helping prepare a workforce ready for Viet Nam's next breakthrough cycle of technological development."
The establishment of the Quang Trung Quantum Decoding Centre represents a strategic decision that lays the foundation for a future quantum technology ecosystem, inspiring and nurturing the aspiration for innovation, technological mastery and global integration among Vietnam's younger generation. It also demonstrates the shared commitment of government authorities, businesses and the intellectual community to supporting local development, reflects the responsibility of Gia Lai Province and Quang Trung University towards national development, and reaffirms the pivotal role of education, science and technology in the country's socio-economic development strategy for the new era.
