At the launch ceremony, representatives of the embassies of 10 Spanish-speaking countries in Vietnam presented books to the National Library of Vietnam. The books help Vietnamese readers not only to learn Spanish but also discover the land and culture of the Spanish-speaking community.
The Book and Reading Culture Day 2022 includes many activities held in both online and in-person formats, including a virtual book review contest, presentation of books to schools in Hanoi, seminars on books and reading culture, and a display of 1,000 books at the NLV.
Running until May 5, the display showcases books on four topics entitled ‘Books - The heritage of humanity’, ‘Reading opens the door to knowledge,’ ‘Reading creates the future’, and ‘The art of reading.’
Winners of the contest themed ‘Paint your favourite books’ for schoolchildren aged between 6 and 13 in Hanoi will also be awarded on the occasion. The winning entries will be publicised on the NLV’s website and Facebook fan page.
NLV Director Kieu Thuy Nga said that the event aims to raise people's awareness of the importance of reading in improving knowledge and thinking skills, and nurturing human personality, thereby fostering reading habits among families, schools, agencies, organisations and communities.
This is also an opportunity to honour organisations and individuals who have been involved in book publishing and distribution as well as those having contributed to the development of reading culture in Vietnam, she added.
