Defence Minister inspects election preparations in Thai Nguyen Province

A working delegation of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and the National Election Council conducted supervision and inspection of preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term in Thai Nguyen Province on March 3.

General Phan Van Giang, Politburo Member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defence and Member of the National Election Council, headed the delegation.

Thai Nguyen Province has more than 1.2 million voters.

The province has 20 candidates running for the 16th National Assembly across five constituencies; 90 candidates standing for the provincial People’s Council across 29 constituencies; and 3,068 candidates for communal-level People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term.

Election preparations in the province have been carried out in a serious, coordinated and timely manner, in strict accordance with the law.

The leadership, direction and administration of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Election Steering Committee, the Provincial People’s Committee and the Provincial Election Committee have been implemented proactively and promptly, ensuring that the election process is conducted in a unified and effective manner.

Party committees, People’s Committees and Election Committees at commune and ward levels have proactively developed plans, assigned specific responsibilities to members, regularly monitored progress and promptly addressed emerging difficulties and obstacles.

Addressing the session, General Phan Van Giang highly appreciated Thai Nguyen’s thorough and methodical preparations, noting that the province had mobilised the entire political system in support of the election work.

The province has also proactively developed contingency plans for various scenarios.

The General requested Thai Nguyen Province to regularly update guidance documents on election work issued by central authorities to ensure timely implementation. He stressed the need to closely monitor each locality with its specific characteristics, promptly resolve arising issues, and ensure that election day truly becomes a festival of the entire people and achieves the best results.
