Fruit and vegetablevegetable exports show strong momentum at the start of the year

According to the Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VinaFruit), from the beginning of January 2026 to date, Viet Nam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached more than 598 million USD, up 59.8% compared with the same period in 2025.

Import turnover reached approximately 399 million USD, an increase of 66.5% year on year. The fruit and vegetable trade surplus is estimated at more than 199 million USD.

Building on the solid foundation of 2025 and expectations for key products, Viet Nam’s fruit and vegetable exports are forecast to continue to perform favourably and maintain growth momentum this year, moving towards the target of 10 billion USD in export turnover. However, the sector needs to monitor and adapt to new import policies, especially China’s Decree No. 280, in order to maintain official export channels.

Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang stated that from January 1, 2026, the Viet Nam agricultural product traceability system will officially come into operation.

VinaFruit also reported that in 2025, durian exports ranked first with a turnover of 3.86 billion USD, accounting for 45.09% of the total value of fruit and vegetable exports. This growth was driven by the expansion of planting area codes and official exports to China, as well as strong penetration into high value-added markets such as the U.S and the EU.

Next came coconut exports (fresh and processed), with turnover of nearly 534 million USD, followed by dragon fruit at nearly 526 million USD. The signing of the Protocol on the export of fresh coconuts to China provided a major boost for this product.

Although facing intense competition, dragon fruit exports have remained among the high-share products thanks to a shift towards markets such as India and the Middle East. Other products such as mango, pomelo, passion fruit and longan recorded steady growth. Notably, passion fruit has accounted for a significant proportion, about 25%, of the export product structure to the EU market.
