The launch ceremony saw the presence of Politburo member Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh and Nicolai Prytz, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam.
Invested by Hateco Group, HHIT is Vietnam’s first deep-water port project funded by the private sector. Construction began in August 2022 and, with the efforts of over 1,500 workers and 100 contractors, was completed two months ahead of schedule after more than 30 months of work.
Covering 73 hectares, HHIT features a 900m primary berth and a 300m barge berth. It can simultaneously accommodate two of the world’s largest container ships with an annual capacity of 2.2 million TEUs, making it the largest and most modern deep-water port in northern Vietnam.
The terminal is equipped with 10 STS cranes (24-row reach), 36 electric RTG cranes, and 1,350 reefer plugs. It also operates a state-of-the-art control system, including real-time monitoring via TOS software, integrated with CCTV, QR, OCR, and smart security alerts.
HHIT is the first port in Vietnam to implement the Truck Appointment System (TAS), allowing drivers to schedule container pick-ups for more efficient operations.
On this occasion, Hateco signed an MoU with Denmark’s APM Terminals to enhance port development and logistics cooperation, to strengthen Vietnam’s supply chain infrastructure.
