The activity is supported by the Delegation of the European Union and Keep Hanoi Clean organisation.
The organizer also called on volunteers who participate in the campaign to cycle to the garbage collection area to contribute to environmental protection. Participants will be invited to enjoy free lunches with vegetarian food during a lunch break.
Long Bien Bridge is a special construction of Hanoi and the Red River is also an integral part of the city's history of establishment and development. The clean-up campaign at the Red River area and Long Bien Bridge is a practical action that not only protects the environment but also contributes to protecting the heritage of Hanoi.
A community of about 300-500 people are living close to the Long Bien market with a long and narrow alley leading to their houses that the sanitation company cannot access to collect garbage.
Keep Hanoi Clean held a rubbish clean-up campaign at the aforementioned area in November 2017 and an estimated 14 tonnes of rubbish were removed. However, garbage continues to flood in this area.
A subsequent cleanup campaign is scheduled to take place in April 2020.
