In pictures: More than 1,000 workers join parade to mark the 140th anniversary of International Workers’ Day
The Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) organised a parade on the morning of April 28 to commemorate the 140th anniversary of International Workers’ Day.
Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice President of the VGCL, delivered remarks at the parade.Workers from 12 units, arranged into four marching contingents, gathered at Thong Nhat Park from the early morning.The parade set off along Tran Binh Trong Street towards the Viet Nam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace.Workers from the Hoan Kiem Branch of the Ha Noi Urban Environment Company.The marching contingents embodied the spirit of unity, discipline, creativity, and the aspiration for progress among workers in the new era.

The parade advanced towards the Viet Nam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, the very site where, on May 1, 1938, a historic rally drew more than 25,000 participants.Residents lined the streets to watch the parade.Vietnamese workers constitute a driving force at the forefront of the country’s industrialisation, modernisation, and international integration.The Viet Nam Trade Union has clearly affirmed its role as a broad socio-political organisation of the working class and a steadfast advocate for workers.The commemoration provides an opportunity to reaffirm the enduring value of International Workers’ Day, generating renewed momentum to continue building a modern and empowered Vietnamese working class.
From the aspiration for an eight-hour working day to the pursuit of independence and national reunification, the Vietnamese working class has fought for its rights while also shouldering the nation’s broader mission.In Viet Nam, the spirit of International Workers’ Day is not only one of solidarity and struggle but also a symbol of the determination to build and safeguard a socialist Viet Nam.
