This is the first time a US President has paid a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The visit took place as the two countries are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive partnership. This is also a continuation of the tradition of nearly 30 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.
