Late professor given Ho Chi Minh Order

Nhan Dan Online – Professor Ta Quang Buu (1910 -1986) has been posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order in recognition of his contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan presented the accolade to the late professor’s relatives at a service held in Hanoi on November 17.

Professor Buu was born in 1910 in Nghe An province. He studied mathematics and physics in France. He was the first Minister of University and Secondary Education from 1965 to 1976, adopting a number of pedagogical reforms that served the nation’s specific needs at that time. In addition to education and training, he was also active in science, technology, and military affairs, and he served as the Minister of Defence from 1947 to 1948.

He received many Party and State awards, including the Independence Order, first class; the Resistance Order, first class; and the anti-US Resistance War Order, first class. Streets in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue and Da Nang have been named in his honour.
