The programme aims to foster a culture of self-study and professional development in foreign language skills among teachers. It is designed to support the initiative to establish English as a second language in schools and to promote lifelong learning across the education sector.

Speaking at the launch, Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong underlined the pivotal role of teachers in ensuring education quality amid digital transformation and international integration.

He stressed that teachers today must not only impart knowledge but also inspire learning, nurture self-study skills, and instil global thinking and adaptability in pupils. He noted that improving foreign language competence extends beyond English as a subject; it is also a gateway for teachers to access new knowledge, harness digital resources, and apply AI in teaching.

“What we hope for is that each teacher sets aside a little time each day to learn a bit more, make a little progress, and maintain a habit of continuous learning. The true value of the programme lies not in the number of study hours or certificates obtained, but in embedding a culture of self-study within the teaching community,” he said.

The initiative is supported by Atlantic Group’s AI-powered language learning platform, FSEL. Brandon Sinkovic, FSEL’s Academic Director, described technology as a “patient tutor in every teacher’s pocket”, available round the clock to ease repetitive tasks such as listening and speaking practice and essay marking.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, Chair of Atlantic Group, added that FSEL is designed to alleviate professional pressures, enabling teachers to devote more time to inspiring and guiding their pupils.

As part of the programme, representatives from Atlantic Group and FSEL presented supporting solutions and introduced the platform for implementing the National English Self-Study Month for Teachers. The system integrates AI, allowing teachers to create flexible, personalised learning pathways tailored to individual ability and to track progress in a clear, intuitive way.
