Defence cooperation between Viet Nam and Belarus has gone smoothly, in line with the overall framework of their traditional friendship and multifaceted partnership as well as signed international treaties and agreements, said General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defence.
During a meeting with Maj. Gen. Pavel Muraveiko, visiting Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defence of Belarus, in Ha Noi on October 20, Giang affirmed that the Vietnamese people and the Viet Nam People’s Army always treasure the valuable support and assistance from the Belarusian people and armed forces during the nation’s struggle for national independence and reunification. As a gesture of gratitude, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence built the Viet Nam–Soviet Friendship Solidarity Monument, which honours Soviet military experts, including those from Belarus, within the grounds of the Viet Nam Military History Museum.
He expressed his hope that, based on the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, both sides will implement the agreed-upon contents, focusing on delegation exchanges, effective implementation of signed cooperation documents, and maintaining exchange and cooperation between military services and branches.
For his part, Muraveiko said that there remains great potential to develop bilateral defence cooperation, expressing his wish that his host will continue to pay attention to and support the strengthening of the ties.
Regarding future cooperation directions, he agreed with the Vietnamese minister’s suggestions that Belarus promote training cooperation based on mutual needs, and enhance collaboration in other potential areas such as military medicine and military science.
