He said their team is not only the pride of Vietnamese sports, but also the entire Southeast Asia region, noting that they deserve to be descendants of the Trung Sisters and Lady Trieu, heroines of Vietnamese history.
According to the parliamentary leader, women’s football in Vietnam has not received adequate investment in proportion to its potential and contribution to the nation’s sports sector.
In order to achieve this glorious victory, the women players had to make great efforts to overcome social prejudices, including difficult livelihoods with low wages and uncertain futures, after retiring from football, said Chairman Hue.
He stated his enormous admiration of Vietnam’s golden girls, and the story of how they weathered tough challenges to win their ticket to the World Cup, emphasising this prime example of breaking gender bias.
National Assembly Chairman Hue took the occasion to call for equality, in not only football and sports but in all aspects of social life.
Speaking at the meeting, the team’s captain, Huynh Nhu, stated that she and her teammates will strive their best to defend the gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games, scheduled for May 2022 in Vietnam.
