Reports presented at the conference indicated that in 2026, the search and recovery of martyrs’ remains in Quang Tri was carried out proactively, focusing on areas where leads were available on burial sites. Relevant forces intensified field surveys, collected documents, verified records, and conducted searches in their assigned areas.
The province organised two workshops to verify and finalise information on martyrs in the Cau Nhi and Con Tien areas. Subsequently, relevant forces searched for and recovered 13 sets of martyrs’ remains in Cau Nhi.
Overall, in 2026 and during the 500-day-and-night campaign, the province searched for and recovered 221 sets of martyrs’ remains. Quang Tri also reviewed, verified, and standardised information, and re-engraved inscriptions on headstones for 1,198 martyrs’ graves in accordance with management records.
The provincial steering committee directed agencies, units, and localities to conduct excavations and collect biological samples at 130 martyrs’ cemeteries in 50 communes and wards, completing sampling from 22,864 unidentified martyrs’ graves and 96 newly recovered sets of martyrs’ remains. Through four intensive phases of gathering DNA samples from martyrs’ relatives, the province obtained 5,297 samples out of 5,442 proposed cases.
Speaking at the conference, Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee, recognised and commended the results achieved by Quang Tri in the search, recovery, and identification of martyrs’ remains. She urged the province to continue upholding a strong sense of responsibility, enhance coordination among relevant forces, and step up the review, collection, and verification of information on martyrs and their initial burial sites.
At the same time, the application of science and technology must be intensified, with a focus on collecting and cross-checking DNA samples, while ensuring that all procedures are carried out rigorously, scientifically, and in accordance with regulations, thereby enhancing the identification of martyrs’ remains.
On this occasion, the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to 10 collectives and 20 individuals for their achievements in the search, recovery, and identification of martyrs’ remains in 2026.
