On August 7, the Ha Noi Steering Committee for the Search, Repatriation and Identification of Martyrs’ Remains held an incense-offering and commemoration ceremony at Mai Dich Cemetery, before commencing the collection of samples from unidentified martyrs’ remains for DNA testing to help establish their identities.
Responding to the 500-day campaign to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of martyrs’ remains, the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command announced that, as of August 4, search teams had recovered 13 sets of martyrs’ remains in the Cau Nhi area of Nam Hai Lang Commune, Quang Tri Province.
The Ho Chi Minh City High Command has recovered a total of 125 sets of martyrs’ remains at Le Thi Rieng Park as efforts continue to locate those buried at a second mass grave believed to date back to the 1968 Tet Offensive.
Drawing on eyewitness memories and traces of the old battlefield, this July, the historic revolutionary site of Hill 722 in Dak Sak Commune, Lam Dong Province, has once again welcomed working teams quietly making their way across hillsides and local farms to cross-check maps, conduct surveys, identify coordinates and search for the nation’s fallen heroes who still remain buried there.
On July 25, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, attended a ceremony launching the search and repatriation of martyrs’ remains in Minh Duc Commune, Dong Nai City.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on July 6 reaffirmed Viet Nam’s unwavering commitment to locating, recovering and identifying the remains of fallen soldiers, stressing that the mission will continue until all martyrs’ remains are recovered.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra on June 25 called for extra efforts to speed up the implementation of the nationwide 500-day campaign to search for, recover and identify remains of fallen soldiers, as the country prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day in 2027 (July 27).
The Ho Chi Minh City Military Command on June 9 announced the establishment of a specialised force tasked with searching for and recovering the remains of fallen soldiers as part of the national “500-day campaign” on martyrs’ remains search, repatriation and identification.
The Ministry of National Defence convened a conference in Ha Noi on April 24 to roll out the peak phase of the 500-day campaign to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of fallen soldiers’ remains.
Party General Secretary To Lam emphasised on December 16 that policies and benefits for those with meritorious service to the revolution must be implemented fully, promptly, and efficiently, with no tolerance for shifting responsibility, stressing the need for a strong commitment to resolve any lingering issues concerning them.
