National flag lowered to half-mast at Ba Dinh Square in state funeral for former President Tran Duc Luong

The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Guard Command held a ceremony to attach a mourning band to the national flag and lower it to half-mast at Ba Dinh Square at 6 am on May 24, marking the beginning of the two-day state funeral for former President Tran Duc Luong, held on May 24 and 25.

During the state funeral, all state offices and public institutions across the country, and Vietnamese representative missions abroad are flying the national flag at half-mast with a black mourning band. Public entertainment and recreational activities are suspended.

According to the funeral organising committee, the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong lies in state at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Ha Noi. The respect-paying ceremony is scheduled from 7 am on May 24 to 7 am on May 25. The memorial service will take place at 7 am on May 25, followed by the burial ceremony at 3 pm the same day in his hometown cemetery in Pho Khanh Commune, Duc Pho Town, Quang Ngai Province.

Simultaneously, tribute and memorial services for former President Tran Duc Luong are also being held at the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and at Hall T50 of the Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command, No.142 Le Trung Dinh Street, Quang Ngai City.

The State Funeral Committee for former President Tran Duc Luong comprises 34 members and is headed by President Luong Cuong.
