The complex covers over 10,000sq. m, near the Thai-Vietnamese Friendship Village, and was financed by the VND30 billion (US$1.41 million) gift given by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the provincial Vietnamese People Association during his official visit to Thailand last year.
Addressing the ceremony, Vietnam Charge d'Affaires to Thailand Pham Thanh Nam thanked the Nakkhon Phanom authorities for their support of the overseas Vietnamese community over the past time.
The memorial complex and the friendship village are to be the largest memorial site dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh outside of Vietnam, reflecting vividly the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand, he said.
Nakhon Phanom Governor Adisak Thepart highly appreciated the contributions made by overseas Vietnamese to the province’s development and the solidification of the friendship and co-operation between the two countries.
He affirmed that the complex would stand as a symbol of the fine friendship between Vietnam and Thailand, indicating the sentiments of Nakkhon Phanom residents towards the Vietnamese people and contributing to further accelerating the Vietnam–Thailand relationship.
The memorial complex is scheduled to open to the public by September 2015.
