The event was jointly organised by the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organisations (CTUFO) and the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF).
Funded with over 11.3 billion VND (429,000 USD) by the TFCF, the project will run from February 2026 to December 2030. It aims to improve learning conditions, enhance the capacity of teachers and parents, and provide direct support for about 1,200 pupils at five primary schools in Tan Loc ward.
Beyond upgrading school facilities, the initiative will focus on strengthening teaching and parenting skills while enabling students to take part in activities that promote life skills, core values, and mental health care.
CTUFO Chairwoman Le Thi Thanh Giang said education has long been identified as a cornerstone of sustainable development in the city. Despite notable progress, students in some areas, particularly rural ones, still face difficulties in accessing adequate learning conditions. This makes the project highly meaningful in improving the educational environment and supporting children’s holistic development.
As the project owner, she noted, the CTUFO pledged close coordination with the TFCF, relevant agencies and local authorities to ensure effective, transparent and timely implementation. The project is expected to generate long-term benefits, contributing to better educational quality and improved well-being for local children.
It is also anticipated to further strengthen cooperative ties between Can Tho and partners from Taiwan (China), helping promote people-to-people exchanges and multifaceted collaboration, Giang added.
Huang Ya-ke, Director of the TFCF Viet Nam, described the programme as the beginning of a long-term partnership, stressing that children’s development requires joint efforts from families, schools and communities, alongside strong cooperation among stakeholders. She expressed confidence that the project will bring lasting positive impacts to the local community.
At the ceremony, the CTUFO and TFCF signed a cooperation agreement on project implementation. The organisers also presented 40 gift packages, each worth 500,000 VND, to disadvantaged students in the locality.
