Over US$1.5 million earmarked to clean water supply system in Can Tho

The information was announced by Director Pham Van Quynh of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development at a meeting this morning in Can Tho with the Korea Environment Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI).

Of the total, the Mekong Delta city is to invest US$1 million, while the rest will be donated by the Korean side.

Can Tho will be responsible for completing pre-construction facilities, engineering designs, tender notices, and producing tender by the end of July, before handing the work over to the KEITI to begin installation of machinery for the project.

The 10,000-square-metre facility has a projected capacity of 2,600 cubic metres per day and is expected to become operational by March 2015, providing clean water to residents in Thanh An, Thanh Thang, and Thanh Loi communes.

Water supply for the plant will be brought from Don Dong canal through pipes placed in the canal to reservoirs for sedimentation, then led to the treatment system and distributed to households for use. Treated water ensures that water hygiene standards are met in accordance with Regulation No. 02/2009/BYT.

At the meeting, the Can Tho leader also committed to creating the best conditions for legal procedures for the Korean side in the construction of the project.
