The event was attended by Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, PCC Secretary, and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilisation.

On Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, the organising board displays more than 200 photos under the themes "The Great Spring Victory of 1975 and the New Era of National Development" and "Pride of a Border Strip".

The exhibition features 95 images highlighting the long, resilient, and heroic struggle of the Vietnamese army and people during the resistance war against the United States, especially heroic fightings of the army and people in the South, with strong support from the entire nation, that led to the three decisive strategic offensives (the Central Highlands Campaign, the Hue-Da Nang Campaign, and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign), to liberate Saigon on April 30, 1975.

Promoting the heroic tradition, over the past 50 years, the Party Committee and people of Ho Chi Minh City have united, shown dynamism and creativity, achieving remarkable accomplishments and pioneering many practical initiatives in the cause of national construction, innovation, and development.

Today, the city named after President Ho Chi Minh continues to affirm its role as a special urban centre, a major hub for the nation in economy, culture, education and training, science and technology, and international exchange and integration. It is a pioneering city ready to accompany the nation into a new era of strong and prosperous development.

The exhibition also displays outstanding works from the 3rd "Pride of a Border Strip" art photography contest, co-organised by the PCC’s Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilisation, the PCC’s Commission for External Relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Public Security, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, the Border Guard Command, and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists.

The contest aims to honour and depict the daily life, work, and combat readiness of soldiers and people who are steadfastly protecting the country's borders, particularly in areas with large ethnic minority populations, while also highlighting the 80-year glorious tradition of the Vietnam People's Army.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasised that the contest attracted a large number of artists, intellectuals, and especially young people across the country, leaving a significant imprint by fostering patriotism, national pride, and the spirit of protecting the sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland among all walks of life.

The contest in 2024 drew nearly 2,000 participants nationwide, submitting over 14,000 photo entries. Based on the contest results, the organising committee selected 22 outstanding works and 128 other notable works for display. These photos vividly reflect the beauty of Vietnam’s homeland, people, and landscapes, offering fresh perspectives and emotional authenticity.

The exhibition runs until May 5.
