The T2 terminal costs a total of 2.25 trillion VND (95.6 million USD) and is designed to serve 5 million passengers each year. It is expected to be completed by the end of April.

The capacity of the current terminal is only 1.5 million passengers a year.

The design of the T2 terminal is modelled after the Hue imperial architecture with cascading roof layers.

To date, the main terminal building is 95% complete and the contractors are working hard to finish the interior and install and test equipment so that it can be put into service next month.

In the meantime, the expansion of the tarmac has been completed and is scheduled to be approved by the end of March.

According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, flight procedures at the new terminal will be connected with the national population database to reduce staff and time requirements.

At the construction site, PM Pham Minh Chinh praised the parties concerned for their efforts to have the terminal completed on time and in line with regulations.

He urged the project owner to direct contractors and consultants to quickly complete the remaining work and get the new terminal ready for service.

The government leader also called for preparation of the workforce for operating the terminal in order to meet the travel demands for the upcoming holiday.
