The project will be carried out in the capital city within the three years from 2012 to 2015 with a total capital of over VND8 billion (US$384,000). It is expected to meet the needs of female sex workers for reintegration support services and to help strengthen law enforcement and policy making process.
The scheme seeks to support policy development on community integration for sex workers; provide technical assistance for vocational training, job creation, and financial support for them; as well as standardise community integration models for sex workers in Hanoi, aiming to replicate the models nationwide, and to raise the capacity of social partners in the implementation and management of integration programmes and policies to support sex workers.
It is part of activities under the National Action Programme on Prostitution Prevention and Control during the 2011-2015 period, which was approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 679/QĐ-TTg, dated May 10, 2011.
The action programme focuses on supporting sex workers who are women and children in getting access to social services including education, vocational training, healthcare, and job changes; enhancing supports for families and communities in healthcare and HIV prevention; and giving opportunities for sex workers to change their lives and reintegrate into the society.
