As chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad, the Indonesian Embassy in Pakistan hosted the “ASEAN Village” event, which was held in conjunction with the closing ceremony of an online exchange programme with the University of the Punjab.

The event was a key activity within the framework of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad, aiming to strengthen the promotion of ASEAN’s image in Pakistan, foster people-to-people exchanges, enhance student cooperation, and create a platform for connection between ASEAN communities in Pakistan and the Pakistani people, especially students of the University of the Punjab in Lahore.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo highly appreciated the efforts of all parties in organising the meaningful event. He said it contributed to promoting ASEAN’s image along with its regional and international standing, raising awareness and understanding of Southeast Asia among young Pakistanis, and thereby strengthening exchanges and connections between Pakistan and ASEAN.

During the event, the embassies of ASEAN countries and the University of the Punjab in Lahore staged distinctive cultural and sporting performances, screened videos and images showcasing the various cultures of ASEAN countries, and presented dances and songs rich in the identities of people from Pakistan’s provinces, including Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At the event, ASEAN embassies introduced and displayed the distinctive cultural and culinary spaces of their countries, giving delegates and visitors an opportunity to learn about and enjoy the culinary beauty of Southeast Asian cultures.

At this year’s event, the Vietnamese Embassy introduced traditional dishes such as pho, spring rolls, and pillow-shaped cakes. The Vietnamese dishes attracted strong interest and were warmly received and highly appreciated by Pakistani guests and many visitors.
