The opening ceremony included two parts, featuring Buddhist rituals to pray for peace and happiness, and a festive section with a range of cultural and sport activities and folk games.
Addressing the event, Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People’s Committee, said that Quan The Am Festival is a unique cultural practice of the city, symbolising the harmony between Buddhism and patriotism.
Visitors to the four-day festival can take part in an incense offering to Princess Huyen Tran, a boat race on Co Co River, and a charity run for peace.
A seminar discussing solutions to promote the value of Quan The Am Festival will also be organised within the framework of the festival.
Quan The Am Festival is one of the traditional festivals associated with Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains) and the religious life of the local residents.
In 2000, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism listed the festival among the 15 biggest national festivals. In March 2021, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a decision adding the festival to the list of national intangible cultural heritages.
