Rice provided to localities during Tet

Nhan Dan – Nearly 19,000 tonnes of rice from the national reserve will be distributed to needy people in 12 provinces on the occasion of the coming Lunar New Year (Tet) and to support them during the period between crops in early 2013.

According to the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 189/QD-TTg signed on January 18, the Government will distribute the rice as follows: Cao Bang 500 tonnes; Quang Ngai 1,000 tonnes; Nghe An 3,870 tonnes; Ha Tinh 1,680 tonnes and Quang Tri 2,190 tonnes each; Quang Binh 750 tonnes; Kon Tum 1,293 tonnes; Binh Dinh 3,000 tonnes; Lao Cai 185 tonnes; Phu Yen 590 tonnes; Thanh Hoa 1,288 tonnes and Quang Nam 2,653 tonnes.

The Government has asked the provincial People’s Committees to distribute the relief aid rice to the people quickly and ensure it reaches the targeted recipients. The Government will also provide additional rice if the situation in the provinces remains difficult.

Previously, the Prime Minister decided to allocate 2,160 tonnes of rice from the national reserves for Lai Chau and 1,980 tonnes for Ha Nam on the occasion of the Lunar New Year and the between-crop period.
