Speaking at the conference, Ngo Phuong Lan, Chairwoman of the Association for Promotion and Development of Cinema, recalled that in the 1990s, three French films were set in Vietnam at the same time, namely ‘Indochina’, ‘Dien Bien Phu’, and ‘The Lover’.

These were followed by a series of films on Vietnam by famous French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung to Vietnam.

However, she noted that since the early 2000s, there have not been any notable French movies filmed in Vietnam. Therefore, the seminar provided a good opportunity to increase the relationship and cooperation in cinema between the two countries.

For his part, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that the seminar is a very important event in contributing to the development of Vietnamese and French cinema.

He highly appreciated the efforts of the French embassy and the French Cultural Centre for introducing more French films in Vietnam.

Participants at the event reviewed the development of Vietnamese and French cinema, provided suggestions for the Vietnamese cinema industry, and discussed the influence of French documentary cinema on Vietnamese filmmakers.
