He praised the project management and contractors for their efforts to speed up the construction, noting that once completed, the expressway would boost socio-economic development in the areas it traverses.

The Deputy PM also recognised the difficulties facing the contractors during construction and encouraged them to overcome the challenges to complete the project on schedule.

On the occasion, he also inquired after and gave presents to workers at the construction site.

The Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway is over 51 kilometres long, and spans Chau Thanh, Tan Phuoc, Cai Lay, Cai Be districts and Cai Lay town of Tien Giang province. It costs nearly VND9.7 trillion (US$417 million) and is scheduled for completion in 2020.

According to Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The, this is a highly anticipated project, which, along with My Thuan 2 Bridge, will improve the infrastructure of the Mekong Delta and facilitate its development.
