In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam affirmed that the events were held to raise public awareness of population work.

He noted that Vietnam has entered a transitional period from a golden population structure into one of the fastest aging countries in the world.

He emphasised that population quality is not only measured by people’s physical health but it also includes spiritual well-being, pre-born healthcare, healthcare for the elderly, equal population distribution, and many inclusive issues.

Therefore, he asked for innovations in population management as well as further efforts, resources and participation from ministries, sectors and the entire society in the work in order to gain the full benefit of the country’s population structure.

He also stressed the need to enhance human resource training for those working in family planning and reproductive health, making them a key force in other population issues such as child care, child protection and healthcare for the elderly.
